The verified student market

Verified student market
At UCAS Media, we talk a lot about reaching the verified student market. By this, we mean those who are currently in full-time education (at sixth form, college, or uni) and those who’ve opted to explore their post-18 education and/or training options.

We understand the kinds of things students need to do, and are doing – like attending a higher education exhibition or careers fair, applying to uni, or looking for jobs – so we can help our clients approach particular groups of students in a way that will create the most impact.

Understanding what students want from brands means identifying these wider contexts. And, considering the lifestyle differences between a 16 year old and a 25 year old graduate thinking about doing a postgrad degree, there can be no broad stroke assumptions that they’ll respond to the same brands in the same way.

This is why it helps to have insight into specific ‘moments’ in students’ lives – as they make big decisions about their future. Understanding these ‘moments’ is key to understanding how what you’re selling can add value, and how best to position your product, service, or brand.

For example, say you want to reach 16 – 18 year olds. You know most of them are at school or college. Have you ever considered what they’re thinking about at specific points over that two year cycle? They’re figuring out what they want to do with their lives: whether they want to go to uni, get a job, or do an apprenticeship. Maybe they’re fed up with education, and want to take some time out to take stock.

Being able to pinpoint a single segment of a specific audience is one challenge – reaching them and cutting through the surrounding noise on and offline is quite another.

Here at UCAS Media, our focus is on students. All students.

Because they come to us as they begin considering their next steps, we have an innate understanding of the decisions they’re making, and both their employment and education choices. And that’s precisely why we have their best interests at heart when we work with commercial partners.
